Energy vs. Emotion: Understanding what you carry

Have you ever walked into a room and “sensed” something was a little off? Or your roommate comes home, and you can tell they had a bad day without them speaking a word to you? What you are noticing is not just a fleeting Observation or intuition- its energy, specifically, Residual energy. Emotions flare and fade, but energy, she lingers. it is a current that ebbs and flows through space, people, and even yourself: shaping how you feel and react. Some of it is yours, and some of it isn’t. learning to tell the difference is the first step to carrying only what belongs to you, and letting go of the rest.

Emotions are immediate and personal—they flare up, peak, and fade like sparks in your mind and body. Scientific research shows that emotions are closely tied to physiological processes, such as heart rate variability and brain activity, which reflect how your body responds to a stimulus in real time. Energy, on the other hand, is more persistent. It lingers in the body and the environment, sometimes as residual arousal from previous events—a phenomenon known as excitation-transfer in psychology. In other words, energy is the invisible current that can shape your experience even when the immediate emotion has passed. Research from the Institute of Noetic Sciences suggests that people can consciously sense and be affected by these subtle emotional energies in themselves and others.

So how do you know what energy belongs to you—and what you might be picking up from someone else? One clue lies in your body. HeartMath Institute research shows that your heart and nervous system are highly sensitive to emotional and environmental signals. They both create measurable patterns of coherence when you are in sync with your own feelings, and disruption when influenced by external energy.

Another key insight comes from psychology: excitation-transfer theory explains that leftover arousal from previous experiences can intensify current reactions, even if the present moment doesn’t warrant it.

in practice, this means that if you feel suddenly tense, anxious, or drained without a clear trigger, it could be residual energy from someone or something else. By pausing, observing, and asking yourself, “Is this mine?”, you begin to disentangle your own emotional responses from the energy you’ve absorbed from your surroundings.

At the end of the day, you get to decide what you carry—and what you let go. Emotions flare, energy lingers, but your space is yours to protect.

Make sure your energy is steady, grounded, and kind. Because when we each honor our own energy, we make room for connection, clarity, and a little more peace in everyone’s day.

That being said, everyone has their own problems in life and it is important for humanity not to put these burdens on others.

Be a good person, take accountability for your energy and its distribution. There is nothing wrong with feeling off and spending some time in solitude to get Realigned.

in simpler terms… do a F**cking vibe check.
